Post 217: Dar atole con el dedo

Atole, is mexican drink made with cornstarch, that is made in many different ways, with different ingridients and flavors.

The expression “dar atole con el dedo” means, “giving someone to drink atole with a finger”. As this is impossible with any liquid, the real meaning of this phrase is “to be played as a fool” “to be conned” or to be “outsmarted by someone”.

Hizo como que estaba enamorada de ti, pero al final te dio atole con el dedo / She made as if she was in love with you, but she only fooled you in the end.
