Day 21: Buena onda/Mala onda/ ¿Que onda?

Onda literally means wave, but in Mexican slang it can be used to say someone is nice, mean, or to say hi to friends.

Eres muy Buena onda/You are very nice.

Esa mujer es muy mala onda/ that woman is very mean

¿Qué onda?/ whats up?

In all this phrases, onda can be changed for pedo, and the meaning is the same. Buen Pedo, mal pedo, ¿que pedo?

Day 20: Huevo/A huevo.

Huevo is a common word, that is used for one of the most common foods: eggs, wich are already the equivalent of “balls” on Mexican slang. The expression  A huevo ! is used to exprees a lot of satisfaction or accomplishment about something. It can also mean “sure”, when someone ask you about something, and you answer a huevo. It also means something its forced, or someone is forcing a person to do something when they don’t really want to. sometimes, its used to refer to someones manliness or bravery.

Ex:

Solo se la pasa rascandose los huevos todo el dia/ He spent his time scratching his balls all day (This means he does nothing on the whole day, he is a lazy person)

When someone scores a touchdown on a game and is very excited, they scream: A huevo!! / hell yeah!!

Vas a hacer la tarea, aunque sea a huevo/ You’ll do your homework, even if you dont want to.

Tienes muchos huevos!/ You are very brave!

Day 18: Naco

We say someone is a Naco or Naca, when a person has bad taste, bad manners and/or a lack of education.   “Redneck” is the most similar word I can think of in the english language, that resembles the meaning of Naco.

It’s often use by people of higer social status to talk about the things the ones they think beneath them like to do, and they never would.

Me encanta mezclar whisky con Coca. Que Naco eres
I love to mix Whisky with coke. You are such a Naco.
